HISTORIQUE DU LIEU, VISION ET PROSPECTIVE
Tibériade est l’un de trois lieux de vie de la Communauté du Chemin Neuf en Côte d’Ivoire. Ce lieu paradisiaque dû à la beauté de la végétation et des eaux qui l’entourent est situé sur la route côtière, non loin de la ville de Grand-Lahou qui est à une distance de 130 km d’Abidjan. La ville de Grand-Lahou elle-même est limitée au nord par la commune de Guitry, à l’ouest par la commune de Fresco, à l’est par les communes de Dabou et de Jacqueville et au sud entre l’océan atlantique et la lagune Tagba, la partie où Tibériade est donc situé. La communauté du Chemin Neuf a reçu ce lieu lors de la Pentecôte 1998 dans l’idée d’ouvrir un centre de formation international en Afrique et le premier cycle A a débuté en 1999.
Plusieurs promotions ont suivi cette formation sur trois mois : la formation théologique, biblique, la vie de prière et la vie fraternelle. Par manque de ressources, ce centre de formation a connu deux ans de pause de 2021 à 2023 ; la réouverture s’est faite en septembre de l’année dernière avec une nouvelle équipe communautaire et cinq jeunes en formation. Cette année 2024, Tibériade continue la formation avec une nouveauté, une première dans son histoire : le cycle C. Les participants à la formation dans ce Centre de Tibériade feront une première partie en trois mois (cycle A) et une deuxième partie en trois mois également (cycle C). Pour cette année, il y a 18 participants à cette première partie, issus de 9 nationalités : burkinabè, burundaise, congolaise, française, ivoirienne, malgache, tchadienne, ougandaise et rwandaise. L’accueil de ces participants s’est fait la semaine du 23 au 30 Septembre, et la formation elle-même a débuté le 02 octobre. Une semaine type à Tibériade est rythmée par différents moments de vie ensemble : temps de prière le matin, à midi et le soir ; le temps d’enseignement, repas, travaux, détente et le weekend, pour ceux qui le veulent, un petit tour aux villages d’alentours : Liboli, Tioko, … Un espace individuel est aussi donné pour permettre de creuser ce que le Seigneur met dans le cœur de chacun.
Après les deux ans de pause, Tibériade se trouve donc à nouveau dans une sorte de phase de « Fondation » : nouvelle équipe, nouvelle vision, nouvelle approche avec les villages voisins, nouvelle perspective. La vision pour aujourd’hui est celle de former des « Disciples à la suite du Christ » en communion avec l’Eglise universelle et la façon communautaire de faire ; et à cela donner une touche africaine aux enseignements dispensés, à la vie fraternelle avec la formule « Ubuntu » par exemple. Il y a aussi le souci de faire connaitre, partager et mettre en commun les cultures de chacun des participants pour qu’enfin tous bénéficient d’une formation intégrale dont le monde a tant besoin de nos jours.
Pour chercher à valoriser l’unité dans la diversité, tout en gardant les différences, la perspective d’avenir serait celle de trouver des stratégies pour inviter les jeunes et vieux à venir se former ; inventer une manière d’appeler, car s’arrêter trois ou six mois pour se former dans un domaine religieux n’est pas chose facile dans la conception africaine surtout pour la personne qui ne porte pas la question de la vie religieuse. HISTORY OF THE PLACE, VISION AND OUTLOOK
Tibériade is one of the three places where the Chemin Neuf Community lives in Ivory Coast. This heavenly place, with its beautiful vegetation and surrounding waters, is located on the coast, not far from the town of Grand-Lahou, which is 130 km from Abidjan. The town of Grand-Lahou itself is bounded to the north by the municipality of Guitry, to the west by the municipality of Fresco, to the east by the municipalities of Dabou and Jacqueville and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean and the Tagba lagoon, the area where Tiberiade is located. The Chemin Neuf community was given the site at Pentecost 1998 with the idea of opening an international formation centre in Africa, and the first cycle A began in 1999.
Several cohorts have taken part in this three-month training course: theological and biblical formation, prayer life and fraternal life. Due to a lack of ressources, this training centre took a two-year break from 2021 to 2023. It reopened in September last year with a new community team and five young people in training. This year, 2024, Tibériade is continuing its training with a new feature, a first in its history: cycle C. Participants in the Tiberias Discipleship School will present a first part in three months (cycle A) and a second part also in three months (cycle C). This year, there are 18 participants for the first part, of 9 nationalities: Burkinabe, Burundian, Congolese, French, Ivorian, Madagascan, Chadian, Ugandan and Rwandan. The participants were welcomed during the week of 23 to 30 September, and the training itself began on 02 October. A typical week at Tibériade is punctuated by different moments of life together: prayer time in the morning, at midday and in the evening; teaching time, meals, work, relaxation and, on weekends, for those who want to, a little trip to the surrounding villages: Liboli, Tioko, etc. Individual space is also given to explore what the Lord is putting in each person’s heart.
Following the two-year break, Tibériade is once again in a sort of ‘foundation’ phase: a new team, a new vision, a new approach with the neighbouring villages, a new perspective. The vision for today is to form ‘Disciples following Christ’ in communion with the universal Church and the community way of doing things; and to give an African touch to the teachings given, to the fraternal life with the ‘Ubuntu’ formula for example. There is also the concern to make known, to share and to put in common the cultures of each of the participants so that finally all benefit from an integral formation which the world needs so much nowadays.
In order to promote unity in diversity, while preserving our differences, the way forward would be to find strategies to invite young and old to come and be trained; to invent a way of calling, because stopping for three or six months to be trained in a religious field is not an easy thing in Africa, especially for someone who is not familiar with religious life. We are counting on the Lord’s grace and everyone’s prayers.

Notre sœur Ruth Lagemann, protestante en mission en Belgique nous écrit quelques lignes sur la visite du Pape dont le point d’orgue était le rassemblement au stade « Roi Baudouin » auquel elle a pu assister.
Du 26 au 29 septembre dernier, le petit pays de la Belgique a eu la chance d’accueillir le Pape François.
L’anniversaire de 600 ans de l’université de Leuven (Louvain) était la raison officielle, mais ceux qui connaissent un peu cet évêque charismatique de Rome pouvaient se douter que cela ne devait pas être la seule raison de son déplacement !
Sept rencontres officielles étaient dans son agenda (alors qu’il revenait tout juste de son voyage en Asie) et – comme il est, le Saint Père se prenait la liberté d’en rajouter plusieurs, spontanées et libres, comme les accolades avec les enfants dans les rues de Bruxelles près de la nonciature, la visite de personnes âgées dans un « home », un petit dej’ avec des sans-abris, rencontres avec des réfugiés et un plongeon en fin de soirée dans la foule des 5500 jeunes réunis dans le « hope happening » (des mini JMJ de 24h préparés en trois mois d’été et jonglant dans les trois langues du pays… !). Quel marathon de ce messager de l’espérance ! La Belgique attendait sa venue de manière partagée, beaucoup étant sur le qui-vive quant aux questions d’abus…
Ce qui m’a touché personnellement, c’est la liberté de cet homme de Dieu sortant des protocoles habituels (à l’image de sa petite Fiat blanche au milieu des grandes limousines noires…), allant à la rencontre aux périphéries, partageant des paroles lucides, humbles et claires quant à la responsabilité de l’Église suite aux abus, ou encore invitant à ne regarder quelqu’un de haut que pour mieux le relever ! N’était-ce pas là la raison de sa visite : venir pour relever l’église de Belgique, voir l’église de l’Europe … ! ?
Voici un petit florilège de quelques-uns des grains d’espérance semés, qui ont été malheureusement peu repris par la presse (celle-ci s’arrêtant – comme souvent – sur une ou deux paroles un peu moins bien exprimées) :
« La Belgique, pays à la fois petit et grand : étant le cœur battant de l’Europe et vivant la vocation de l’unité et l’appel à être un pont ! » (discours au Roi et responsables politiques)
« L’Église a sa plus grande richesse dans ses membres les plus faibles » (repas avec les sans-domiciles-fixes)
L’Église appelée à garder les portes ouvertes…
« S’il vous plait, ne fermez jamais les portes qui offrent à tous une ouverture sur l’infini […] c’est l’Église qui évangélise, vit la joie de l’Évangile, pratique la miséricorde. » (discours aux forces vives de l’église catholique de Belgique)« Un théologien de ce pays, fils et professeur de cette université, a dit : ‘Nous sommes le buisson ardent qui permet à Dieu de se manifester’ (A. GESCHÉ, Dieu pour penser. Le Christ, Cinisello Balsamo 2003, p. 276). Maintenez allumée la flamme de ce feu ; élargissez les frontières ! Soyez des soucieux, s’il vous plait : avec le souci de la vie, soyez des chercheurs de la vérité et n’éteignez jamais votre passion, pour ne pas tomber dans l’acédie de la pensée, qui est une très mauvaise maladie. Soyez les protagonistes de la création d’une culture de l’inclusion, de la compassion, de l’attention aux plus faibles et aux grands défis du monde dans lequel nous vivons. » (discours a l’université de Leuven)
“ouverture, communion et témoignage” – La Communauté des croyants n’est pas un cercle de privilégiés, elle est une famille de sauvés… Les cris des pauvres sont la voix vivante de l’Esprit, ils nous rappellent qui nous sommes – nous sommes tous de pauvres pécheurs, tous, moi le premier – ; et les personnes abusées sont un cri qui monte vers le ciel, qui touche l’âme, qui nous fait honte et qui nous appelle à la conversion. » (messe finale avec 39.000 fidèles au stade Roi Baudouin)
Je bénis le Seigneur d’avoir pu vivre de près cette rencontre avec les 3000 agents pastoraux catholiques, les 5500 jeunes venus de Belgique et des pays voisins autour de notre stand « hope for unity » et à l’heure de prière pour l’unité que nous avons animée, puis a l’Eucharistie finale…que ses graines d’Espérance portent des fruits dans les cœurs, nos églises et nos pays…!
Prions pour l’Église en Europe !
An unforgettable visit to the epicentre of Europe…!
Our sister Ruth Lageman, a Protestant working on mission in Belgium, writes a few lines about the Pope’s visit , which culminated in a gathering at the Roi Baudoin stadium which she was able to attend.
From the 26th to the 29th of September, the small country of Belgium was lucky enough to welcome Pope Benedict.
The 600th anniversary of the University of Leuven (Louvain) was the official reason, but those who know a little about this charismatic bishop of Rome could suspect that this was not the only reason for his visit!
Seven official meetings were on his agenda (even though he had just returned from his trip to Asia) and – as is his nature – the Holy Father took the liberty of adding several spontaneous and free meetings, such as hugs with children in the streets of Brussels near the Nunciature, a visit to elderly people in a home, breakfast with homeless people, meetings with refugees and, at the end of the evening, a plunge into the crowd of 5,500 young people gathered for the ‘hope happening’ (a mini World Youth Day lasting 24 hours, prepared in haste over the three months of summer and juggling the three languages of the country…). ! ) What a marathon for this messenger of hope! Belgium was awaiting his arrival with mixed feelings, with many on the alert about issues of abuse…
What touched me personally was the freedom of this man of God – getting away from the usual protocols (already driving around in his little white fiat in the middle of the big black limousines…), going out to meet people, going to the outskirts, his lucid, humble and clear words about the responsibility of the church following the abuses but above all that several times he spoke of the fact that you only had the right to look down on someone if it was to lift them up! I wondered if this wasn’t the reason for his visit, that he had come to lift up the church in Belgium, or even the church in Europe?
Some of the seeds of hope sown, which unfortunately were not widely picked up by the press (which – as is often the case – only picked up a couple of words that were not so well expressed):
‘Belgium, a country that is both small and great: the beating heart of Europe and living the vocation of unity and the call to be a bridge’ (speech to the King and political leaders)
‘The Church’s greatest wealth lies in its weakest members’ (meal with the homeless)
The Church called to keep the doors open…
‘please, never close the doors – offering everyone a glimpse of the infinite, looking beyond. It is the Church that evangelises, that lives the joy of the Gospel, that practises mercy’. (address to the lifeblood forces of the Catholic Church in Belgium)‘A theologian from this country, son and professor of this university, said: ‘We are the burning bush that allows God to manifest himself’ (A. GESCHÉ, Dieu pour penser. Le Christ, Cinisello Balsamo 2003, p. 276). Keep the flame of this fire burning; widen the borders! Be concerned, please, with the care of life, be seekers of truth and never extinguish your passion, so as not to fall into the acedia of thought, which is a very bad disease. Be protagonists in the creation of a culture of inclusion, of compassion, of attention to the weakest and to the great challenges of the world in which we live’. (speech at the University of Leuven)
‘openness, communion and witness’ – The Community of believers is not a circle of the privileged, it is a family of the saved… The cries of the poor (they) are the living voice of the Spirit, they remind us of who we are – we are all poor sinners, all of us, me first -; and the abused are a cry that goes up to heaven, that touches the soul, that shames us and calls us to conversion.’ (Final mass with 39,000 faithful at the Roi Baudoin stadium)
I bless the Lord for having been able to experience first-hand this visit with the 3,000 Catholic pastoral workers and the 5,500 young people from Belgium and neighbouring countries around our ‘hope for unity’ stand and at the hour of prayer for unity, led by us, and then at the final Eucharist…may these seeds of Hope bear fruit in our hearts, our churches and our countries…!
Let’s pray for the Church in Europe!
Grande joie en Pologne, grande joie à Mistów ! Après quatre années de construction, nous avons ouvert la nouvelle Maison Siloe ! C’est le fruit d’une vision portée par le fondateur de la Communauté du Chemin Neuf, le Père Laurent Fabre et les membres de la Communauté en Pologne, confirmée ensuite par François Michon (actuel modérateur général de la Communauté du Chemin Neuf) et l’ancien ordinaire du lieu, l’archevêque Hoser, de créer une maison dédiée à la guérison intérieure. La construction a commencé à un moment où tout se fermait, c’est-à-dire pendant le premier confinement en mars 2020. Depuis lors, les messagers de Dieu se sont multipliés, soutenant notre projet de diverses manières : par leurs compétences, leurs dons matériels et financiers, leurs conseils, leurs prières et le travail concret de nombreuses personnes sur place, notamment des paroissiens et des amis. C’est un projet soutenu financièrement à la fois par de grandes fondations, grandes entreprises et aussi par beaucoup de contributions individuelles. La fête inaugurale qui a eu lieu le 14 septembre a été un beau couronnement de ce projet de construction et a réuni de nombreuses personnes impliquées dans cette œuvre de Dieu.
La messe a été présidée par l’archevêque Wojciech Polak, primat de Pologne et ami de la Communauté, soutenant ce projet, et étant lui-même sensible aux personnes éprouvées par la vie. Dans son homélie, il a fait référence à la fête de la Croix Glorieuse : « nous sommes un peuple qui marche à travers l’histoire, et il n’est pas difficile, en chemin, de douter, de se décourager et de se laisser mordre par des serpents dangereux. Et bien que le Seigneur n’enlève pas tous les serpents, Il nous encourage à tourner notre regard vers la croix glorieuse du Christ, où se manifeste la miséricorde de Dieu. Cette vision spirituelle a cependant besoin de lieux concrets et de personnes qui se consacrent au service de la miséricorde guérissante de Dieu » – c’est ainsi que le primat de Pologne perçoit la mission de notre Communauté.
Un moment particulièrement émouvant fut le récit des différentes étapes du projet, accompagné de remerciements à tous ceux qui nous ont soutenus. Micro en main, notre frère Marcin Borządek (curé de la paroisse de Mistów) alternait entre joie débordante et pauses nécessaires pour maîtriser son émotion et ses larmes, témoignant de la fidélité de Dieu et de la bonté humaine. Beaucoup, beaucoup de personnes méritaient d’être remerciées ! Antoine Cousin (prêtre et économe général de la Communauté du Chemin Neuf) a également pris la parole, rappelant la pédagogie divine des petits commencements. C’est ainsi que le Seigneur nous a guidés jusqu’à présent, et Il continuera à nous guider de la même manière, à travers la logique de la croix et de la gloire.
Après une brève mais solennelle bénédiction de la Maison Siloe, qui faisait référence au texte fondateur de la Communauté du Chemin Neuf (« L’Esprit du Seigneur est sur moi parce que le Seigneur m’a consacré par l’onction. Il m’a envoyé porter la Bonne Nouvelle aux pauvres, annoncer aux captifs leur libération, et aux aveugles qu’ils retrouveront la vue, remettre en liberté les opprimés, » Luc 4, 18), nous avons partagé un repas commun pour les quelques 500 personnes présentes, toutes liées au projet. Ce fut un beau moment fraternel de rencontres, d’amitiés où chacun a pu visiter à son rythme la nouvelle maison, belle et spacieuse. Après le déjeuner, dans des petites salles on pouvait visionner certains films de Net For God sur le thème de la guérison intérieure ou écouter des témoignages à ce sujet. Pendant l’après-midi la nouvelle chapelle de la maison, dans laquelle nos frères et sœurs de Łódź ont animé la louange en continu, a été remplie par les invités. Parce que, comme le disait notre frère Marcin Borządek, c’est ce petit groupe de prière, dans ce village de Mistów, qui a nourri spirituellement au quotidien la construction de ce lieu.
Émerveillement, gratitude, joie – voilà comment résumer cette journée, qui ne pouvait se terminer autrement que… par la vaisselle et le rangement des chaises 🙂
Siloe Centre in Poland
Great joy in Poland, great joy in Mistów! After four years, we opened the new Siloe House! It’s the fruit of a vision shared by the founder of the Chemin Neuf Community, Father Laurent Fabre, and the members of the Community in Poland, then confirmed by François Michon (current general moderator of the Chemin Neuf Community) and the former local ordinary, Archbishop Hoser, to create a house dedicated to inner healing. Construction began at a time when everything was closing down, that is, during the first confinement in March 2020. Since then , God’s messengers have multiplied, supporting our project in many ways: through their skills, their material and financial donations, their advice, their prayers and the practical work of many local people, especially parishioners and friends. The project is financially supported by major foundations and companies, as well as by many individual contributions . The inaugural celebration on 14 September was a fitting culmination to this building project, and brought together many of the people involved in this work of God.
The Mass was presided over by Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Primate of Poland and friend of the Community, supporting this project, and being himself sensitive to people tested by life. In his homily, he referred to the feast of the Glorious Cross: « We are a people walking through history, and it is not difficult, along the way, to doubt, to become discouraged and to be bitten by dangerous snakes. And although the Lord does not remove all snakes, He encourages us to turn our gaze towards the glorious cross of Christ, where God’s mercy is manifested. This spiritual vision, however, needs concrete places and people dedicated to the service of God’s healing mercy » – this is how the Primate of Poland sees the mission of our Community.
A particularly moving moment was the recounting of the various stages of the project, accompanied by special thanks to all those who have supported us. Microphone in hand, our brother Marcin Borządek (Mistów parish priest) alternated between overflowing joy and the pauses needed to control his emotion and tears, bearing witness to God’s faithfulness and human goodness. Many, many people deserved to be thanked! Antoine Cousin (priest and general bursar of the Chemin Neuf Community) also spoke, recalling the divine pedagogy of small beginnings. This is how the Lord has guided us until now, and He will continue to guide us in the same way, through the logic of the cross and of glory.
Afterwards a brief but solemn blessing of Siloe House, which referred to the founding text of the Chemin Neuf Community (« The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the Good News to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, » Luke 4: 18), we shared a meal together for the 500 or so people present, all of whom were involved in the project. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and friendship, with everyone able to visit the beautiful, spacious new home at their own pace. Afterwards, in small rooms, people could watch some Net For God films on the theme of inner healing or listen to testimonies on the subject. During the afternoon , the house’s new chapel, in which our brothers and sisters from Łódź led continuous worship, was filled with guests. Because, as our brother Marcin Borządek said, it was this small prayer group, in this village of Mistów, that spiritually nourished at daily the building of this place.
Wonder, gratitude, joy – that’s how to sum up this day, which could only end with… washing up and putting away the chairs 🙂
ABBAYE DE HAUTECOMBE
Cette année encore le Festival Welcome to Paradise bat son plein à l’Abbaye de Hautecombe. Avec près de 1600 jeunes accueillis cette année, l’Abbaye historique se transforme en un lieu de rencontre pour les chrétiens venus des quatre coins du monde.
Située sur les rives du lac du Bourget, Hautecombe offre un cadre exceptionnel, alliant beauté naturelle et patrimoine historique. Le festival profite de cette ambiance unique pour proposer une expérience à la carte, où les participants peuvent se laisser porter par les propositions de louange, prières, workshops, activités sportives, tout en admirant les somptueux paysages environnants.
Le thème de ce Festival est « Unlock » (« déverrouille ») et raisonne comme un encouragement pour les jeunes de ce monde à oser témoigner de leur foi.
