Un bel arc-en-ciel sur le Domaine du Fort (Saint Pierre) au moment du chant du « JOYEUX ANNIVERSAIRE » à notre Communauté
« L’Eglise de demain » tel est le thème du jubilé de la CCN et la Martinique est la 3e étape d’un chemin communautaire qui comme le soleil fait le tour du globe, après Hautecombe en France et le Burkina Faso et avant la Pologne.
Plusieurs lieux, un même corps, le même Esprit !
La célébration du jubilé a comporté plusieurs moments, certains d’une importance particulière comme l’eucharistie (Les textes choisis, le sourire de Marie et de Jésus, les beaux vêtements liturgiques des célébrants, la chorale, l’assemblée fervente, les fleurs…) ou les tables rondes et le concert des jeunes.
D’autres, en apparence moins centraux, ont aussi touché les cœurs, comme les temps de louange, les temps de partage, les repas, les conversations de cour ou de jardin, les photos partagées, les textes et les images reçues… Tous nos sens à la manière ignatienne ont été sollicités.
UN CHEMIN SYNODAL
Deux évêques, des prêtres, des religieux, hommes, femmes, blancs et noirs, descendants d’esclavisés, descendants d’esclavagistes, chrétiens, protestants, orthodoxes, paroissiens, communautaires, membres de la Communion, amis du Chemin Neuf, hommes politiques, jeunes et vieux de différents continents, dominicains et dominicaines se sont réunis pour prier, écouter la Parole de Dieu, chanter en Français en anglais, en créole, en Kirundi ; danser, partager leurs opinions, manger et boire et essayer de construire ensemble l’église de demain.

Joie, fraternité, unité, pardon sont les mots clés de cette journée.
Cette manière d’être frères, s’est vue dans les yeux, dans les rires et les sourires, les traits d’humour, dans les corps qui se balançaient, dans les voix, dans les mains qui se joignaient, dans les bras qui supportaient les plus faibles mais surtout dans cette joie qui habitait les cœurs, tous les cœurs, et qui était l’onction de la grâce divine impalpable, mais combien réelle ! Vrai temps de consolation !

Comme dans chacune des trois autres régions deux tables rondes se tiennent autour du thème général mais avec une connotation spécifique au pays. Pour la Martinique et la Guadeloupe, les questions retenues, l’ont été à partir d’un processus synodal auquel ont participé tous les frères de la Communauté et de la Communion de Martinique et de Guadeloupe :

« Tomorrow’s Church » is the theme of the CCN jubilee, and Martinique is the 3rd stop on a community journey that is going around the world like the sun, after Hautecombe in France and Burkina Faso, and before Poland.
Many countries, one body, one Spirit!
The jubilee celebration included a number of moments, some of special importance, such as the Eucharist (the chosen texts, the smiles of Mary and Jesus, the beautiful liturgical vestments of the celebrants, the choir, the fervent congregation, the flowers…) or the round tables and the youth concert.
Others, seemingly less central, also touched our hearts, such as the times of praise, the times of sharing, the meals, the conversations in the courtyard or garden, the shared photos, the texts and images received… All our senses, in the Ignatian way, were called upon.
A SYNODAL JOURNEY
Two bishops, priests, religious, men, women, white and black, descendants of slaves, descendants of slave-owners, Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, parishioners, community members, members of the Communion, friends of Chemin Neuf, politicians, young and old from different continents, Dominicans, men and women, came together to pray, to listen to the Word of God, to sing in French, English, Creole and Kirundi; dance, share their opinions, eat and drink and try to build tomorrow’s church together.

Joy, fraternity, unity and forgiveness are the key words of this day.
This way of being brothers was seen in the eyes, in the laughter and smiles, in the humour, in the bodies that swayed, in the voices, in the hands that joined together, in the arms that supported the weakest, but above all in the joy that dwelled in the hearts, in all the hearts, and which was the anointing of divine grace, which was intangible, but so very real! A true time of consolation!

As in each of the other three regions, two round tables were held around the general theme, but with a country-specific emphasis. For Martinique and Guadeloupe, the questions were selected on the basis of a synodal process in which all the brothers of the Community and Communion of Martinique and Guadeloupe participated:

*The Church and the challenge of integrating young people
Un aspect distinctif de la spiritualité ignacienne est l’accent mis sur l’enseignement de “la personne entière”, soit l’intellect, le corps et l’esprit. D’origine ignatienne, la Communauté du Chemin Neuf s’inscrit dans ce phylum : la formation est bien l’un des piliers de la Communauté. Aujourd’hui il existe de multiples maisons de formation dans la Communauté : de Saragosse à Hautecombe en passant par Londres, New-York ou encore Tibériade en Côte d’Ivoire, sans oublier l’Institut théologique des Dombes ou encore le studium de Chartres. Ce sont ainsi plus de 100 jeunes qui suivent en ce moment un cycle de formation. Petit tour du monde non exhaustif des formations en cours !
Hautecombe Discipleship School – Abbaye de Hautecombe (France)
Ils sont 54 participants de 13 nationalités à avoir choisi de vivre un semestre de formation « HDS » en ce moment même !
« Devenir disciple, transformer le monde » voilà l’ambition d’HDS ! Pour cela, la formation repose sur 5 piliers : Prière et discernement, Formation biblique et théologique, Vie communautaire, Écologie intégrale et Mission.
Au 2nd semestre (désormais nommé HDS 2) les participants continuent de vivre ces 5 piliers mais dans un format « sur mesure » avec 7 propositions :
Rester à Hautecombe pour un temps de formation et discernement, se mettre au service de la préparation Festival Welcome to Paradise, partir pour un volontariat de solidarité JET, consacrer la suite de l’année à un projet artistique et missionnaire, s’immerger dans les médias et la communication, se mettre au service d’un projet écologique ou revenir dans la vie professionnelle et associative.
Quel que soit leur choix, tous les HDS 2 (sauf JET) se retrouveront à Hautecombe en février, mars et juin pour des week-ends / semaines de formation / retraite. Ils pourront alors continuer à vivre la fraternité et à se former mais aussi partager sur « l’après HDS » et le retour dans la vie active.
2023-24 est donc une année d’innovation pour HDS, afin de répondre aux besoins exprimés par les jeunes d’une formation « sur mesure » qui puisse « donner encore davantage de sens à leur vie ».
Aula Dei Experiment – Chartreuse Aula Dei de Saragosse (Espagne)
Chaque année, des couples, familles ou jeunes (de la Communauté, de la Communion, de Cana ou qui ont entendu parler de la formation par des amis…) choisissent de laisser leur travail, leur maison, leur pays pour 3 à 9 mois.
Leur premier désir est surtout de prendre du temps en couple et en famille pour mettre le Christ au centre de leur vie. Certains portent des questions pour la suite (orientation professionnelle, déménagement…)
Ils ont aussi le désir de se former, mieux connaître la Bible pour pouvoir se mettre davantage au service d’une paroisse, d’une mission et témoigner auprès de leurs proches.
Cette formation leur permet vraiment de découvrir ou approfondir la prière personnelle, de faire l’expérience de la réconciliation avec les uns et les autres dans les détails de la vie quotidienne.
Les enfants entre eux, également, vivent toute une vie fraternelle qui les transforment !
Centre international de formation – Tibériade AYOKA-village (Côte d’Ivoire)
Paix et joie à tous, en direct de notre centre Tibériade en Cote d’Ivoire !
La vocation de ce centre est d’être un lieu d’accueil et de passage.
Après une sorte « d’année blanche“ en 2022 afin de pouvoir commencer ici un grand chantier de restauration du bâtiment originel, le Centre relance en 2023 des propositions de formation.
Actuellement, nous terminons une semaine d’exercices. Et comme toujours, c’est l’occasion de voir à l’oeuvre notre Seigneur, qui est un expert en restauration.
Déjà, il y a une date fixée pour le prochain Cycle A : ce sera début février 2024. Cette formation s’enchainera avec une autre en septembre/octobre afin de s’ajuster sur le rythme de HTC et Saragosse.
Communauté Saint Anselme – Lambeth Palace Londres (Grande Bretagne)
« Être au service de la Communauté Saint Anselme m’ouvre à deux dimensions.
La première, c’est celle d’un élargissement du cœur. Les jeunes que nous accueillons représentent une diversité, à la fois culturelle et ecclésiale, que je n’ai jamais rencontrée ailleurs. Et c’est pour ces jeunes-là que nous sommes appelés à nous donner, avec toute la joie, mais aussi toutes les difficultés qu’un tel melting-pot nous fait vivre. Je me sens souvent comme une mère, à qui il est soudainement demandé d’adopter (et d’aimer !) des enfants extrêmement différents.
La deuxième dimension à laquelle Saint Anselme m’ouvre, c’est celle d’un ancrage plus profond dans le charisme ignatien. N’ayant rien en commun avec ces jeunes, je découvre d’autant plus chaque année à quel point la spiritualité ignatienne est universelle. La diversité des jeunes me pousse à affiner, à préciser, à nommer toujours plus clairement le charisme de Saint Ignace, afin de le transmettre dans toute sa vigueur, sans approximation ni édulcoration, mais aussi d’une manière qui soit claire pour tous. »
Ecole de langue – Cénacle de Tigery (France)
Nous avons 6 jeunes à l’école de langue, ils viennent de Hongrie, Pologne, Slovaquie, Espagne et Colombie. Cette année, nous sommes davantage en lien avec Hautecombe : nous partageons la semaine « Vie dans l’Esprit » avec les jeunes de HDS fin octobre et nous partageons aussi avec eux la retraite des exercices fin novembre.
Les jeunes partagent leur temps entre des cours de langue pour apprendre le Français, une vie de prière avec la Communauté sur place, des temps de service et de fraternité pour goûter la vie communautaire… sans oublier la proximité de Paris qui permet de belles découvertes !
Communauté At the Crossing – Saint John the Divine à New-York (USA)
Après plus d’un an de préparation, la cathédrale épiscopalienne St. John the Divine à New York a célébré ce 24 septembre le lancement d’un nouveau programme œcuménique pour les jeunes, la Communauté « at the Crossing », animée par la Communauté du Chemin Neuf.
Des jeunes venus de tous les horizons écclésiaux ou géographiques se sont engagés pour une année de formation, de prière, de service aux plus démunis, en présence notamment de l’archevêque de Canterbury, Monseigneur Justin Welby

A distinctive aspect of Ignatian spirituality is the emphasis placed on teaching « the whole being » – mind, body and spirit. The Chemin Neuf Community, of Ignatian origin, is part of this tradition. Indeed, formation is one of the pillars of the Community. Today, there are many formation centre in the Community: from Saragossa to Hautecombe, passing through London, New York and Tibériade in Ivory Coast, not forgetting the « Institut théologique des Dombes » and the « studium in Chartres ». More than 100 young people are currently following a training course. Here’s a non-exhaustive overview of the discipleship school underway!
Hautecombe Discipleship School – Hautecombe Abbey (France)
A total of 54 participants of 13 different nationalities have decided to take a gap year in Hautecombe Abbey to follow the « HDS » programme.
The ambition of HDS is « to become a disciple, transform the world! » To achieve this, training is based on 5 pillars: Prayer and discernment, Biblical and Theological Formation, Community Life, Integral Ecology and Mission.
In the 2nd half of the year (called HDS 2) participants will continue to experience these 5 pillars but in a « tailor-made » format with 7 possibilities:
Staying at Hautecombe for a period of formation and discernment, helping to prepare the Welcome to Paradise Festival, going on a JET solidarity volunteering programme, devoting the rest of the year to an artistic and missionary project, immersing yourself in the media and communications, working on an ecological project or returning to professional life and voluntary work.
Whatever their choice, all the HDS 2 (except JET) will meet at Hautecombe in February, March and June for weekends/weeks of training/retreat. This will enable them to continue to experience fraternity and to train themselves, but also to exchange views on the « after HDS » and the return to working life.
2023-24 is therefore a year of renewal for HDS, in order to meet the needs expressed by young people for a « tailor-made » training programme that can « give more meaning to their lives ».
Aula Dei Experiment – Aula Dei Charterhouse, Zaragoza (Espagne)
Every year, couples, families or young people (from the Chemin Neuf Community, the Communion, Cana or who have heard about the formation from friends…) choose to leave their work, their home, their country for 3 to 9 months.
Their first desire is to put Christ at the centre of their lives by spending more time as a couple and as a family. Some have questions for the future (career direction, moving house, etc.)
They also want to learn more about the Bible so that they can serve more a parish or a give themselsves in a mission and be a witness to their loved ones.
This training really enables them to discover or deepen personal prayer, and to experience reconciliation with one another in the concrete details of everyday life.
The children, too, live a fraternal life that transforms them!
International Training Centre – Tibériade Aypka-village (Ivory Coast)
Peace and joy to all, live from our Tiberiade centre in the Ivory Coast!
The purpose of this centre is to be a place of welcome and transit.
After a sort of « blank year » in 2022 to allow work to begin on a major restoration of the original building, the Centre will be relaunching its training programmes in 2023.
We’re just finishing a week of spiritual exercises. And as always, it’s an opportunity to see our Lord, who is an expert in restoration, at work.
A date has already been set for the next Cycle A: it will take place at the beginning of February 2024. This course will be followed by another in September/October to match the pace at Hautecombe and Zaragoza.
Community of St Anselm – Lambeth Palace London (United Kingdom)
« Serving the Community of St Anselm opens me up to two dimensions.
The first is a broadening of the heart. The young people we welcome represent a diversity, both cultural and ecclesial, that I have never encountered elsewhere. And it is for these young people that we are called to give ourselves, with all the joy, but also all the difficulties that such a melting pot brings. I often feel like a mother who is suddenly asked to adopt (and love!) extremely different children.
The second dimension to which St Anselm opens me up is that of a deeper rooting in the Ignatian charism. As I have nothing in common with these young people, I discover even more each year just how universal Ignatian spirituality is. The diversity of the young people pushes me to refine, specify and name the charism of Saint Ignatius ever more clearly, in order to transmit it in all its vigour, without approximation or watering down, but also in a way that is clear to everyone. »
Language School – Cénacle de Tigery (France)
We have 6 young people at the language school, from Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Colombia. This year, we have a stronger link with Hautecombe: we share the « Life in the Spirit » week with the young people from HDS at the end of October and we also share the retreat with them at the end of November.
The young people divide their time between learning French, prayer life with the local community, times of service and fraternity to experience community life… not forgetting the proximity of Paris, which makes for some wonderful discoveries!
Community at the Crossing – St John the Divine New-York (USA)
After more than a year of preparation, St. John the Divine Episcopal Cathedral in New York celebrated the launch on 24 September of a new ecumenical programme for young people, the Community at the Crossing, run by the Chemin Neuf Community.
Young people from all ecclesial and geographical backgrounds made a commitment to a year of formation, prayer and service to the most underprivileged, in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
